Genealogy Society of Southern Illinois
(GSSI) houses their collection of genealogy materials in the John A. Logan College Library, 700 Logan College Road, Carterville, IL 62918. The collection is open during regularly scheduled hours and in accordance the college calendar. GSSI materials do not circulate. Please feel free to make copies.
GSSI usually meets on the second Sunday of each month in the John A. Logan College Library. Speakers and topics are announced in advance in the monthly GSSI Newsletter and in local media.
Illinois - the Military Tract
In May 1812, an act of Congress was passed which set aside bounty lands as payment to volunteer soldiers for the War against the British (War of 1812). The land was set aside in the present states of Arkansas, Michigan and Illinois.
Illinois State Historical Society

Quakers in Illinois
Quaker settlements were prominent in the early days of Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and New Jersey. The Carolinas also provided homes for Quakers.
